Nicknamed the Shara Bullet, Sharabutdin Magomedov signed with the UFC in 2023 and is a Dagastani MMA fighter with an undefeated record, currently at 11 – 0 at the time of writing. But unlike the more famous undefeated Dagastani, Khabib Nurmagamedov, Shara is known more for his devastating KO power on his feet rather than the typical Dagastani wrestling style.
The newest fighter to come off the Dagastan conveyor belt might be unknown to MMA fans ahead of his UFC debut on October 21st but a deep dive into his past shows that we may have a lot to look forward to. Apart from his unblemished record and devasting KO power he has quite the colorful past.
A fighter with one eye
At the point in his career when Shara was 4-0, his future seemed to be on the upward trajectory until an accident in his Thai training camp left him blind in his right eye. Doctors performed multiple surgeries but eventually deciding to remove the eye completely. Shara thinking his career was over, took a 3 year break before coming back and destroying his next 7 opponents.
Controversy
Shara is not one without controversy either. In May 2023, he kicked an opponent after he lost a grappling match via submission to a heel hook. This garnered Shara a lot of negative attention in the fight game and earned him a reputation as a hot headed fighter. Earlier in the year he was involved in an altercation in a shopping mall in Moscow after he was angered by a public display of affection between a couple. After the couple kissed, Shara confronted the man before allegedly punching him and stomping on him while he was down and rendering him unconscious.
In the cage, the 29 year old Sharabutdin Magomedov has made waves by finishing 10 of his 11 Pro MMA fights by TKO/KO with 7 of them coming in the first round. Sharas UFC debut will be against Bruno Silva at UFC 294 in the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. The belief is that we will only see Shara fight outside of the USA with the UFC as he may not be cleared to fight by the various US commissions.
